You’re a small business owner, so you’re obviously a monocle-wearing, diamond-money-clip-wielding, elite-credit-card-carrying member of the 1%.


Or not so much, if the full story is told.

You may have heard it suggested in the media that many small businesses are simply wealthy people trying to avoid taxes.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) had their Chief Economist crunch the numbers — what he found is the majority of Canada’s small business owners are actually middle-class.

In fact, the reality is that the average Canadian small business owner is more likely to be in a lower-income category than the average Canadian worker.

This graphic illustrates how the notion of a small business owner as super-rich is a myth, pure and simple.
